Food for Kids
Nutritious meals are vital to a child’s overall well-being. Through Food for Kids programs, children receive healthy meals all year round. To learn more about any of these programs, contact Food for Kids.
When the school year ends, TAFB provides free summer meals to children who might otherwise go hungry. Any child under 18 may come to eat for free. No income requirements or registration necessary for a child to eat at a summer meal site.
Tarrant Area Food Bank is now accepting applications from organizations interested in becoming a host site for the Summer Meals program. Learn more and apply. All new and returning organizations participating in Summer Meals are required to attend an upcoming training. Register today.
BackPacks for Kids and SummerPacks for Kids
For many children, the only meals they eat each day are provided at school. TAFB’s BackPacks for Kids program provides these children with backpacks full of nutritious food that they can take home to make sure that they don’t go hungry over the weekend. When school lets out for the summer, TAFB ensures that children are still able to receive nutritious food through its SummerPacks for Kids program.
TAFB provides after-school meals to children who are at high risk of hunger. TAFB Partner Agencies serve these meals in environments that are safe, accessible and convenient. In addition to nutritious meals, Partner Agencies offer structured after-school activities such as tutoring, mentoring and physical recreation.
The In-School Snack program provides healthy snacks to students who experience hunger during the school day. This program does not replace school breakfast or lunch, but rather helps tide students over until their next meal, allowing them to focus in the classroom.
