FOOD SAFETY TRAINING

ServSafe

ServSafe Starters™ and ServSafe Manager are food safety training programs of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation offered to Food Bank Partner Agencies, Community Kitchen graduates and program volunteers.

This training is provided at a low cost to Agencies, and meets requirements of Tarrant Area Food Bank, Feeding America, and the State of Texas, as well as local county and city regulatory agencies.

All agencies are required to maintain current food safety certification. Please see specific recommendations by program type.

For Pantry Programs:

ServSafe Starters is a basic food handling education program that covers Personal Hygiene, Cross-contamination, Allergens, Time & Temperature Control, and Cleaning & Sanitation topics. Upon passing the short exam, a certificate of completion is awarded that is valid for 2 years.

Starters training is now available online through ServSafe and is offered in English and Spanish. For step by step instructions on accessing the course and a money-saving discount code, please read Starters Order Process with Coupon Code.

Pantries are require to have a minimum of one staff member certified for their organization, and a copy of the certificate on file at the Food Bank. Once a staff member has been certified, the certification remains valid for two years, as indicated by the date on the certificate. Recertification must be completed BEFORE the expiration date on the certificate.

Important Note: Should the certified staff member no longer be associated with the Pantry, then the organization must have a new staff member complete the certification process as soon as possible.

Please email a copy of the certificate to Agency Relations. By maintaining current certification and providing a copy of your certificate you ensure continued access to Food Bank inventory. Agencies that do not maintain certification will be placed on product hold until the requirement is met.

For Feeding Programs (all types):

ServSafe® Manager, formerly called ServSafe® Essentials, blends lecture, video and activities in a way that constantly engages the learner with food safety content. This blended learning approach helps students listen, watch, practice, and remember key food safety lessons. This course is offered as a one day workshop and includes the Food Protection Manager examination. Lunch is provided to training attendees.

Feeding Programs are required to have a minimum of one staff member certified for their organization, and a copy of the certificate on file at the Food Bank. Once a staff member has been certified, the certification remains valid for 5 years, as indicated by the date on the certificate. Recertification must be completed BEFORE the expiration date on the certificate.

Important Note: Should the certified staff member no longer be associated with the Feeding Program, then the organization must have a new staff member complete the certification process as soon as possible.

By maintaining current certification you ensure continued access to Food Bank inventory. Agencies that do not maintain certification will be placed on product hold until the requirement is met.

Agencies that elect to take an alternative training, must provide a copy of the certificate to the Food Bank. Please email a copy of the certificate to Agency Relations.
