FOOD DRIVES

Planning a Food Drive

We offer materials and tips for successful food drives and ask that food drives be registered with us so we can anticipate when food will be delivered. To register a food drive and order materials, please fill out the Food/Fund Drive Registration/Order Form. For suggestions on creative ways to make a food/fund drive successful, see Food/Fund Drive Tips.

For information on picking up food drive boxes, go to Food/Fund Drive Materials.

Why Food Drives are Critical

  • Of the tens of millions of pounds of food Tarrant Area Food Bank handles each year, annual Food Drives account for approximately 1,000,000 pounds of the total poundage distributed.
  • Funds donated through Food Drives are used to purchase much needed staples that our partner charities request.
  • Annual Food Drives establish relationships with local employers and organizations that can be called upon during disasters to serve as drop-off donation sites.

Hunger Knows No Season

On any given day in North Texas, tens of thousands of families and individuals struggle with food insecurity and hunger. This means that community food and fund drives are needed all year. Workplaces, churches, schools, youth groups, civic organizations, professional associations, neighborhoods, apartment complexes and others are encouraged to sponsor Food & Fund Drives any time of the year.

Tarrant Area Food Bank sponsors two major Food & Fund Drive programs:

Summer Hunger Buster Food & Fund Drives in the spring and summer stock shelves when children are out of school and unable to access the national free and reduced-cost school lunch program. In addition, food contributed in the Fort Worth area each year to the National Association of Letter Carriers' Food Drive on the second Saturday in May is donated to Tarrant Area Food Bank. The Letter Carriers’ drive is the nation’s largest one-day food drive.

Fall/Holiday Food & Fund Drives feed families from September through February. Our zany Kick the Can relay races officially kick off the Holiday Food Drive season the first Friday of November.
